First off, let me start by saying that overall, the WWE did a really great job with the MITB weekend. NXT Takeover was a top to bottom stellar production. I don’t want to say anymore than that because there’s so much to talk about there. The main roster definitely took notice of this and stepped up last night in my opinion. Other than the Roman & Jinder match, the show was well done, and even the two unexpected (except for one by Nick) winners of the briefcases make sense. We saw the women’s one get cashed in last night with Alexa taking a perfect opportunity to re-capture the raw women’s title in the classic heel fashion. The mens one, now in the possession of the monster among men, Braun Strowman, is still up in the air.
At first glance, you might say, “Why Strowman? He doesn’t need this. He’s the monster among men & he’s so over. This is bad booking”. But it’s actually not. It’s actually great booking in a way, AS LONG AS the payoff is done in a different manner than we are used to when it comes to cashing in the MITB briefcase. This can’t be a run in at the end of a match. This can’t be Braun running down after the 74th Roman Vs Brock match. That’s what you do if a Miz or a Finn Balor were to have gone over last night. You gotta handle this one different, and if you do, it’s going to save the Universal Title from its current irrelevant status.
I’m hoping to see Braun open Raw tonight, briefcase in hand. I want him to cut a promo where he comes off tough and proclaims himself the future of the company. I want that to lead into him calling out The Beast Incarnate, Brock Lesnar, and using the contract to challenge him head up. It not only gets the Universal Title off of Lesnar & back onto a talent that is on TV more than 10 times a year, but it also is a much more believable cash in for Strowman. Think about it, no one wants to see the guy known for insane feats of strength to run down the ramp all desperate to take advantage of a battered champ. We wanna see the monster be a monster. Monsters dominate. They fear nothing. They don’t do sneaky, they do dominant destruction. That’s what Strowman needs to do here.
Whether it’s at Extreme Rules or Summerslam (I would prefer it happen at Summerslam. Have Heyman talk some shit about Brock only appearing at top shows. Build the hate up even more. Plus the Brooklyn crowd is always hot so it will come off better), that’s how you build it this year. That’s how you go from the beast, to the monster
