Article here: Barstool’s “Pup Punk” set to go on tour in 2018!
May 23rd, 2018 — (New York, NY) — Pup Punk announce the first one leg of the 2018 North American Tour today. The band is touring in support of its first three songs. The tour kicks off and concludes on Thursday, July 12 at Irving Plaza in New York City.
Damn dude, Barstool Sports just keeps killing it at every turn. Their latest splash? The music industry! So news just broke today that their in-house pop punk band, “Pup Punk” is actually going on tour this year. The article states that the tour will kick off on July 12th at Irving Plaza in New York City. Now, to set the stage for all you people out there unfamiliar with pop punk, just think Blink 182, The Starting Line, Simple Plan etc… That’s pop punk. It’s whiny, it’s redundant, it’s filled with teenage angst … it’s fucking awesome. You don’t agree, too fucking bad, dude.
I want to go on record and state that I don’t think this is a one off Tour. I just listened to their new song “My Real Girlfriend” and that shit … is … really … good! Hooks for days and guitar solos forever. I have no doubt in my mind that this group will parallel another famous group, a group that you may have heard and seen before … None other than “The Wonders/Oneders” from the classic movie, “That Thing You Do!” Now, not only does the Barstool group have the same catchy choruses and style as Tom Hank’s greatest creation, but they have a seemingly eerily similar story arch to the actual movie.
Let’s break it down real quick …
So Smitty was the band’s original drummer when they first started out, but ended up having to be replaced by Frankie Borrelli after suffering a shoulder injury. You know who else was an upcoming pop band whose drummer was replaced due to an arm injury? Yep, you guessed, the fucking Wonders and they went on to become the biggest band in the world! (Sorry, Smitty) It doesn’t stop there … In the movie, the new drummer, Guy Patterson earns the nickname “Shades”, which is a nod to the fact that he wears sunglasses while he performs. You know who also wears sunglasses to perform … PFT Commentator. I mean the list goes on and on.
I’m sure other people have made the connection, I mean it’s blatantly obvious … or maybe I’m the first. I have no idea, but either way, I’m definitely going to be there on July 12th. Irving Plaza is no joke either. That’s one of the premiere venues in NYC for any band to perform at. If you’re not sold, check out the single …
Tell me that’s not a hit, you can’t. July 12th. Be there …. toniiiigghhhhhtttttt.
